Investigation In The Disaster Of A
Plane Crash.
The Aviation Manager Refutes The Rumors Concerning The Company Status.
And he calls the papers to calm down in order to preserve the Lebanese
Aviation’s reputation and the safety of the investigation.
The Civil Aviation Division Declared the following:
Some papers stated different news concerning the disaster that hit a
plane belonging to an Air-Ground transportation company, dated October
third which is summed up by the following:
1- The manner in which this company was made.
2- The plane participating in the 1917 war
3- The make of the aircraft, and the function of both the plane and its
captain through leasing and free of charge.
4- To inquire on the technical protection provided for the plane.
5- The exchange of gold with lead, or not boarding the gold on the plane
at all.
In order to release the truth in the investigation, the Civil Aviation
Division represented by the president of the investigation committee
which is made up according to the 1179 decision dated October fourth, by
the minister of public affairs and transportation which constitutes of
the head of the technical affairs, head of aviation safety and the
technical experts for the international organization. The stated
committee declares that it has proceeded, appropriate technical
investigation and that the minister of public affairs and transportation
has personally supervised a big part of it on Saturday, October Fifth.
And in response to certain published news, in the papers, as we have
previously listed above, the president of the committee explains the
following:
First- The Air-Ground transportation company “LIA” was formed according
to the constitution number 1435 dated 23 March,1950 and was given the
right to start and use the International Airlines provided promptly by
the government..
Second- The plane is a “Curtiss model 46Commandos. American,
manufactured in 1942. Licensed along with hundreds others of its kind in
the world, to transport passengers and merchandise It did not
participate in the 1917 war.
Third- The plane as presented is not a “York” model but a “Curtis” and
it is registered in the name of “LIA” company and owned by “LIA” through
finalized sales deals ,Consequently it is not leased and its pilot who
is of an American nationality, flying the plane has been hired by the
company for the last seven months for a monthly salary of 3250 Lebanese
Liras including the overtime hours that he provides.
Fourth- As for the question concerning the technical surveillance of the
plane, the certificate carried by the plane proves that the required
technical conditions for the plane safety were present and that the
plane like all other planes underwent regular examinations according to
the local and international regulations. It is important to state that
the engineer experts who supervise the technical conditions and
maintenance of all “LIA” planes are mostly foreign experts and certified
for their skills internationally. As for the plane, it has been examined
technically according to the regulations before its departure as shown
clearly in the records and the official documents registered for this
purpose.
Fifth- The gold boxes arrived from abroad to Beirut on board Holland
Airlines, on the first and second of October and were stored in the
Customs warehouse according to the Transit regulations until they were
loaded on board the plane at around one am, October third 1957 after
undergoing all the necessary custom arrangements.
Sixth- As for the news concerning selling the company and the gradual
rise of the price, although the matter has nothing to do with the plane
crash, it is only connected with the negotiations which had to do with
the selling and purchasing of a trading company according to the need
and demand offers and the power of commercial investments.
In order to protect the reputation of the Lebanese Aviation, and the
safety of the current investigation, the president of the investigation
committee calls the papers, and the public to not spread rumors before
the investigation has been completed and declared officially.
