Coastal Cleanup Day 2004
|
Trash in our marine and waterways is not
only unsightly, but it presents serious health and human safety risks as
well as threatening marine wildlife and ecosystems.

Organizing and coordinating the Coastal Cleanup Day event
in Lebanon for the third year in a row, NISD believes that this event is a chance for the community to express
their respect for the sea and demonstrate their desire for clean water
and healthy marine life. |
 |
By showing how much trash one diver can gather in two or three dives,
NISD also aims to raise public awareness about the sea pollution and
encourage people to accomplish something vital and worthy on behalf of
our environment, least but not last, stop throwing trash into the sea.
Sponsored by NISD, Cyberia, DIVE RITE, HSBC, and Sukleen, 140
volunteers including students and teachers from the ACS school participated in the 2004 Coastal Cleanup Day in Lebanon.
90 divers from Lebanon, Saudi Arabia, Emirates, Palestine, Europe
and USA
conducted more than 10 dives from 9:00 am till 6:00 pm retrieving all sorts of
debris (car tires, glass bottles, metallic cans, plastic cups, ropes,
plastic and metal pipes, plastic chairs, clothes, shoes…).
Help us work toward the solution by volunteering in next year's
International Coastal Cleanup in Lebanon.
